چکیده

[Sedation using dexmedetomidine and remifentanil with local anesthesia for intraoperative speech monitoring: a case report].

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Some surgical procedures such as laryngoplasty require patients to remain conscious during the intraoperative phase in order to enable speech monitoring. Dexmedetomidine and remifentanil were used in this study, since they promote appropriate patient collaboration with facilitated awakening, and are rapidly eliminated. CASE REPORT The patient complained of dysphonia, ...

Dexmedetomidine as sole sedative for awake intubation in management of the critical airway.

We report a series of successful awake fiberoptic intubations in patients with critical (unstable, difficult) airways using the alpha(2)-agonist, dexmedetomidine. Dexmedetomidine has several desirable pharmacologic properties, including sedation, anxiolysis, hypnosis, analgesia, amnesia, antisialagogue effects, and a unique respiratory-sparing effect. Dexmedetomidine appears to be a useful agen...

Awake craniotomy anesthetic management using dexmedetomidine, propofol, and remifentanil

INTRODUCTION Awake craniotomy allows continuous monitoring of patients' neurological functions during open surgery. Anesthesiologists have to sedate patients in a way so that they are compliant throughout the whole surgical procedure, nevertheless maintaining adequate analgesia and anxiolysis. Currently, the use of α2-receptor agonist dexmedetomidine as the primary hypnotic-sedative medication ...

Dexmedetomidine-based monitored conscious sedation combined local anesthesia for levator resection in a 10-year-old child with Marcus Gunn jaw-winking synkinesis

RATIONALE Levator resection has become a routine procedure for patients with severe Marcus Gunn jaw-winking synkinesis (MGJWS). To optimize the surgical outcome, adult patients need to be kept awake, or easily aroused and responsive to verbal commands during the operation. However, levator resection is commonly performed under general anesthesia in pediatric patients. In the present case, we de...

Dexmedetomidine for awake fiberoptic intubation in a parturient with spinal muscular atrophy type III for cesarean delivery.

Spinal muscular atrophy in pregnancy is rare and poses multiple problems for the anesthesiologist. The effects of dexmedetomidine on a parturient with spinal muscular atrophy have not previously been reported. There are also no in vivo data on placental transfer of dexmedetomidine and its effects on a human neonate. We report the hemodynamic, respiratory and sedative effects of dexmedetomidine ...
